Many food substances you think that are
healthy for your body are not exactly doing good for your teeth. This doesn’t
mean you should stop eating them. Especially now that we all stay in our home,
we can’t keep our hands off those snack shelves. But you can make few
modifications and you are good to go. We would like to provide you with some acuity on how to keep those damages to the minimum.
Beware of the ‘crunch’:
Sour candies & dried fruits:
Sticky foods are your mouth’s worst
nightmare! They are acidic and sugary in nature. They can stick to your teeth
for long time nurturing bacteria to produce acid thus causing decay.
Bread:
Think twice before walking down that bread
aisle in the supermarket. When you chew on white bread, a gummy paste-like substance
sticks to the crevice between your teeth. This can cause cavities and bad
breath.
Alcohol:
We all know that drinking excessive amount
of alcohol isn’t healthy. But do you know what it does to your mouth? It causes
dehydration thus reducing saliva secretion. Saliva protects your teeth by
washing away food particles and prevents food sticking to your teeth.
So don’t forget to drink plenty of water
after that cocktail party.
Watch your acid intake:
Some suggestions:
- ALWAYS! ALWAYS! rinse your mouth with water after every meal and snack.
- Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth moist.
- If you can’t go without soda, try to limit it to your meal time. Same goes with sugary snacks.
- Make sure there are no residues after eating any sticky or chewy food by brushing your teeth.
- Flossing and brushing can help you get rid of food deposits between your teeth.
