The Oral hygiene fighter!

We are all well aware that for a good oral hygiene we need to brush twice a day. But do you take proper care of your toothbrush? How often are you changing your toothbrush?     Sure enough, shopping for a toothbrush is not as fun as buying a new set of cloths, but it is important. Because, we know toothbrushes don't last forever. Not changing your toothbrush when needed can affect your dental health and spread infection. Titbits about toothbrush!    A toothbrush, as you know, is used to clean your teeth and gums (hopefully daily) by removing plaque and remaining food particles. It is recommended to brush your teeth twice a day. The soft bristles tend to fray over time, which reduces its cleaning capacity. Therefore, when bristles wear become noticeable it is time to change your toothbrush.    Toothbrushes mechanically remove bacteria which cause gum diseases, tooth decay and bad breath.    If you have been sick with  viral/...

WHAT IS THE HASSLE ABOUT ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE?

Being in the middle of a pandemic, we think this would be the best time to discuss antibiotic over usage. To dodge another possible pandemic, it is high time we use the antibiotics in our hands wisely. New resistant strains of bacteria are growing so fast that we are running out of antibiotics to treat them. WHO has released a list of bacteria for which new antibiotics are needed. HOW DO ANTIBIOTICS WORK? To make something clear, not all antibiotics kill all bacteria. Certain antibiotics are effective against certain bacteria.    To simplify, these antibiotics specifically target the components or a particular process of microbes which is not found in the host (humans).      Generally by studying the symptoms or nature of the infection, the likely causative organism is decided and apt antibiotics are given. In unfamiliar scenarios, pus culture is done to find out the causative organism. ANTIBIOTICS IN DENTISTRY:     Use of antibiotic...
